Saint Cosme Saint-Joseph 2019 is an enticing red wine from the northern Rhône Valley, showcasing the elegance and depth of Syrah.
Located in the heart of the Gigondas appellation, the same family has owned this estate since 1490.
It covers 15 hectares of old vines, with an average age of 60 years, producing yields of around 27 hectolitres per hectare.
Though the terroir may seem uniform, it is geologically diverse, made even more complex by the Dentelles de Montmirail.
Saint Cosme is uniquely situated at the junction of two geological faults, a rare feature that enhances the diversity of its soils.
The estate benefits from a cool microclimate, which contributes to the late ripening of the grapes. This unique condition allows its Gigondas wines to embody both power and elegance.
The family’s commitment to Saint Cosme is unwavering. Their goal is to express the extraordinary potential of the terroirs, in harmony with the character of the old vines. Their philosophy embraces traditional techniques, organic viticulture, and a deep understanding of the land.
The Saint Cosme Saint-Joseph 2019 opens with rich aromas of black fruits like blackberry and plum.
Hints of cracked black pepper, violets, and a subtle smoky minerality complement it.
The palate reveals a full-bodied wine with smooth tannins and balanced acidity, delivering flavours of dark berries, liquorice, and a touch of earthiness.
It finishes with delicate notes of spice and leather.
Perfect for pairing with grilled meats, hearty stews, or mature cheeses.
100% Serine (an ancient variety of Syrah).
70% Destemmed fruit – 30% Whole cluster fermentation.
Granite sand from the Malleval valley.
Aged for twelve months: 20% in new barrels – 40% in barrels used for one wine – 40% in barrels used for two or three wines.
Most of the work is done by hand. The estate’s aim is to create wines that reflect the purity and character of the terroir.
