Vergine Riserva 2009, a traditional Italian fortified wine from the Marsala region, is a classic example of a dry style of marsala. Produced by the historic Florio Winery, founded in 1833, this label is an excellent example of the Marsala Vergine category, wines known for their purity and intensity.

It was aged for 13 years in the Florio winery’s Garibaldi Cellar and shows a deep amber colour with subtle golden reflections. On the nose, it displays a complex and layered bouquet with notes of salted nuts such as almonds and walnuts. It is further enriched by accents of tobacco, vanilla, and delicate spices. On the palate, the Vergine Riserva 2009 offers a harmonious flavour, with a perfect balance between richness and fresh acidity. The wood nuances from aging in oak barrels blend elegantly with the fruit and spice flavours.

This wine is ideally served at a temperature of around 12-14°C. It can be enjoyed as an aperitif but also pairs well with aged cheeses, mushroom-based dishes, or dark chocolate. It is also an excellent meditation wine, meant to be sipped slowly to appreciate all its nuances. In short, it’s impressive, rich, and full: a delightfully smooth fortified wine.
