Albert Bichot Santenay Premier Cru Clos Rousseau is a fruity, age-worthy red Burgundy with a characterful palate. This wine, characteristic of its 2019 vintage, is fresh and balanced with a fruity overtone.
In the southernmost part of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, the 392 hectares (969 acres) of Santenay’s vines take root on the first slopes of the Mont de Sène hill.
The name of this appellation refers to Roman times when the village was renowned for its thermal baths and its natural spring, “Santinae aquae”, meaning “healing water” in Latin. “Rousseau” is a common surname in Burgundy, even today, and is said to have been the original owner’s name.
The grapes are hand picked before being fermented in oak vats for 28 days. The wine then ages for 14-16 months in 20-30% new oak barrels.
Typical of the Côte de Beaune reds, the nose is intensely fruity with redcurrant, plum and black cherry aromas enhanced with hints of white pepper and kirsch. Nervy, fleshy and generous, this wine has character and good structure. The finish is long and fruity, with a highly aromatic note.
Enjoy Albert Bichot Santenay Premier Cru Clos Rousseau with roasted or stewed red and white meats, like duck a l’orange. It also shines with medium cheeses like Brie.
