Avignonesi Desiderio Toscana IGT is a rich, fruity and spicy Tuscan Merlot from a beautiful winery with a long history.
Avignonesi is produced at Le Capezzine winery, an historic estate where winemaking mastery, love for nature, the community of Montepulciano, and consumers meet. Founded in 1974, its current owner is Virginie Saverys.
The grapes for this wine were harvested in early September then vinified with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel for 25-30 days. Following this, the wine aged in oak barriques to add a layer of peppery spice.
This wine takes its name from Desiderio, a Chianina breed of bull who lived on the Avignonesi estate over 100 years ago. In his honour, the label features an image of a white bull.

Producer’s Tasting Notes
The wide aromatic bouquet ranges from cherry and plum jam to notes of black tea, rhubarb, and graphite. It then boasts final touches of cardamom. The entrance is bursting. On the palate it is enveloping and deep, accompanied by a silky and linear tannin. This is typical of the structure of Tuscan Merlot. Tastefully juicy and in symbiosis with the olfactory notes, it then gives notes of coconut and black pepper in the aftertaste.
