The queen of black grapes, Nebbiolo, is the protagonist of Casali del Barone, a range of wines that express the tradition and history of the Piedmont region, between Langhe and Monferrato. Barbaresco is one of two outstanding DOCG zones in Piedmont to produce this classic expression of this fickle grape. Notoriously, Nebbiolo is as picky and stubborn as Pinot Noir and it is with this that both Barbaresco and Barolo have been likened to the great wines of Burgundy.
Made from the best of Casali del Barone’s vineyards, this Barbaresco is produced from grapes hand-harvested from the slopes of the sandy limestone Langhe hills, North of Alba. The wine is fermented for 3 weeks and then spends a full 26 months ageing, of which, 9 months is within the traditional large oak Botti.
This is a wine with a vibrant red garnet colour with elegant and complex aromas of violet, red fruits, spice and toasted nuances. An intense palate with rich ripe red fruits, a velvety texture and soft supple tannins. This is a fresh and expressive example which finishes with great depth and length.
