The Charles Frey winery has operated since the beginning of the 18th century and is still family-owned, with the third generation of full-time winemakers now dedicated to the business. They own 14 hectares of vines across five distinct terroirs. The vineyards are biodynamic and began their move towards organic farming in 1997.

This wine is a field blend of four different varieties aged in earthenware vessels. Bold, complex and exotic, the nose presents layers of mango, pear and peach fruit, spicy ginger and vanilla and a hint of florals. The palate opens broad, with ripe and intense fruit notes and lots of sweet baking spices (nutmeg, cardamom). Then, powerful yet balanced acidity comes in to maintain the freshness.
This wine is macerated in an extended 15-day skin contact, resulting in its deeper colour and rich spicy aroma. It’s unfiltered with a natural deposit. The nose displays typical aromas of lychee and roses, while the palate surprises with its substance, dry character and length. Marmalade and stem ginger then gradually come to the forefront, alongside subtle tannins.
This is a pale ruby Pinot Noir from Maison Frey. It is light and lithe, full of sweet red berry and strawberry fruits. The nose is delicate with raspberry, cherry kernel and a soft spice character. Meanwhile, on the palate, there is tart cranberry and just a hint of dark cherry. It has svelte tannins and pleasingly fresh acidity, then a persistent fruity finish. The structure is supple, as it’s the lightest Pinot Noir in the Maison’s range.
