This is Lebanon’s most famous exported wine. If that sounds strange, we would add that Lebanon has been producing wine for millennia and that the results are controversially excellent.
Musar are proud of intervening as little as possible in their vineyards and their winery – the vines are bush-trained. There is little added sulphur dioxide, and all fermentation is spontaneous. The vineyards have an average age of forty years and produce low yields near the villages of Aana and Kefraya in the Bekaa valley.
The grape varieties used are Carignan, Cinsault, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are aged for one year in French oak from Nevers, for another year in concrete, and matured in bottle for four years at the winery before being released.
