This Château Petit-Villages Pomerol is a rich, powerful French red showing some of the finest traits of the Pomerol regional style. It’s deep, complex and structured.
Château Petit-Village is located on the highest part of the magnificent Pomerol plateau, on deep gravel and clay soils in the heart of the appellation. The vineyard in a single plot is shaped like a triangle and well situated to produce high quality wines typical of this exceptional terroir. Their Grand Vin Château Petit-Village expresses the successful blend of the Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties.
Certified organic since 2020, the vines on this terroir are on average 35 years old.
Blend – 77% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet-Sauvignon
Ageing – 60 % in new barrels, 40 % from barrels of one vintage for 15 months
Winemakers manually carry out a meticulous selection and successive sorting on the plot, mechanically under the destemmer and densimetric sorting, then manually on the sorting table. After harvesting, the grapes are put into cold storage (6°C). Cold pre-fermentation maceration is followed by alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new barrels for the best Merlot vats. The wine then ages for 18 months in barrels (45% of which are new) and 500-litre casks (5%).
“Château Petit-Village 2016 has a beautiful dark purple colour. The intense nose presents the notes of blackberry and violet that are characteristic of the Pomerol appellation. The palate is round and powerful, presenting great tannic structure. The finish is then long and ends with a spicy note.”
