The Choya ‘Extra Years’ Umeshu is a premium traditional Japanese liqueur made from ume fruit. A perfect balance between ume extract and alcohol is achieved by ageing the whole fruit, with the stone still inside, in the spirit.
The Choya ‘Extra Years’ Umeshu is matured for between 2-3 years and made from 100% Japanese premium Nanko ume fruit.
The delicious tang of Umeshu comes from citric acid in the fruit, and the refreshing flavour stimulates the appetite.
The addition of alcohol to the fruit during production means that the ume flavour can be extracted not only from the flesh and skin but also from the stone. It undergoes a maceration process which lasts for over 12 months to fully extract the acidic qualities of the fruit.
It is this process which gives Choya Umeshu its unique fruity bouquet, with notes of almond and marzipan. The result is an Umeshu that is well balanced, sweet and slightly viscous.
Its luxurious aroma and deep, elegant bouquet makes this a wonderful gift and a staple part of any sophisticated Japanese meal. Enjoy it alongside seafood sushi, cold dipping noodles or okonomiyaki.
