Domaine des Verrières Les Pierres Plantées is a rich, spicy red wine with a ripe fruit palate.
Jean-Claude Mas, of Domaines Paul Mas, has added Domaine Les Verrières, in the Grés de Montpellier appellation, to his portfolio of estates. ‘Les Pierres Plantées’ is the first blend he oversaw personally as winemaker and owner.
The plot ‘Les Pierres Plantées’ is located not far from the Mas de Tannes estate and enjoys an excellent micro-climate.
The site is planted with Syrah and Grenache vines, which are between 20 and 30 years old, producing low yields.
Winemakers use traditional vinification, adding long maceration to the process. The resultant wine then ages in oak barrels for 12 months. If the wine is stored in optimal conditions, its bottle aging potential will be 6 to 10 years.
Enjoy Domaine des Verrières Les Pierres Plantées with hearty meat dishes like a beef stew, moussaka, grilled lamb chops with thyme or even coq au vin.
Producer’s Tasting Notes
Colour: garnet red, but with purple highlights.
Nose: complex, with aromas of black fruits (plum, blackberry), flowers (violet, lilac), spices and a toasted touch.
Palate: an opulent and persistent wine, with flavours of ripe fruit and then liquorice; smooth palate with fine, melted tannins.
