2017 saw the first ‘back-to-back’ vintage for the Symington family since Andrew James Symington first arrived in Porto in 1882. 2017 is a remarkable vintage. Not only is it a historic vintage but it was also an exceptionally dry vintage, with yields 20% below that of the ten-year average.
Quality this year can quite easily be summed up in one word: outstanding. Likened in many ways to the great vintage of 1945, this 2017 from the lodge of Dow’s has remarkable concentration, structure, and elegance. It is not only set to be a vintage for the next century but is also one of the most palatable young ports we have had the pleasure of tasting.
