Not all Madeira wines are created equal. Henriques & Henriques 20 Year Old Terrantez is a fine old wine made from an increasingly rare yet noble grape variety which grows in the Portuguese Madeira islands from which this wine hails.
It has intense aromas of sultanas, walnuts, toffee, and hazelnuts. The palate is medium dry (with some sweetness) and shows sweet spice, caramel, almonds, more dried fruits and citrus peel. It has an impressively long finish. As for the nature of the winemaking – it is essentially slow baked for 20 years – it will stay in condition once the bottle is open. This causes it to be virtually indestructible!
Henriques & Henriques 20 Year Old Terrantez Madeira makes for an excellent pudding wine. It also shines with creamy blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort.
