Holden Manz Wine Estate, Franschhoek’s hidden gem, nestles in the southernmost corner of the stunningly beautiful Franschhoek Valley.

The Anglo-German Holden-Manz family has owned the 22-hectare estate since 2010.

Solar panels producing 75kW of electricity and a 40,000-litre roof water collection system supplement the underground water supply, reflecting the winery’s motto “Tread Lightly.”

The estate’s signature wine, Holden Manz Big G, blends 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Cabernet Franc, and 18% Merlot.

The estate grows all the fruit, hand-picks it, and performs repeated manual selection. They allocate specific blocks in the vineyard for making Big G, and they only use the resulting component wines if they meet high-quality standards.

After a ten-day cold soak, the wines mature in 225-litre French oak barrels (30% new and 70% second fill) for 18 months, followed by blending and further ageing for 6 months.

Producer’s Tasting Notes

Ruby red in colour with aromas of black cherries, plum, subtle herbaceousness, nuances of pine needle, blueberry and spearmint with hints of cedar wood and pencil shavings.

Soft, voluptuous mouthfeel with  integrated tannins. It has a smooth mid-palate with a finish full of dark fruit and long lingering flavours.
