Le Volte dell’Ornellaia is a rich Tuscan wine which combines a Mediterranean expression of generosity with structure and complexity, reflecting the philosophy of Ornellaia. Intensely versatile, it shares the estate’s deep-rooted passion for quality.
It’s a quintessential Super Tuscan at unbeatable value.
The Ornellaia estate, established in 1981, aims to produce outstanding expressions of Italian terroir. Their priority is attention to detail and an intimate knowledge of the vines. It’s owned by the Frescobaldi family and lies in Tuscany near the Mediterranean sea, leaving behind sandy soil with clay and limestone at higher altitudes.
The 2022 vintage in Bolgheri was distinguished by a typical winter with temperatures nearing the seasonal average, followed by a start of spring that was equally cool and dry. These conditions caused the vines to bud later than usual. The harvest took place during ideal weather, allowing high levels of selectivity.
This blend is 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot.
Le Volte is a bright, fresh and fruity wine with aromas of cherries and blackberries as well as black pepper. It has pleasant levels of acidity with considerable body, followed by smooth and enduring tannins. Whilst high-toned and perfumed, the palate has a lovely texture to it.
