Lunadoro ‘Prugnanello’ Rosso di Montepulciano is a lovely, spicy Tuscan wine at brilliant value.
Montepulciano is a less famous village than Montalcino for the production of fine Tuscan red wines. So much the better since it means that the perfumed and refined expressions of Sangiovese made here are much more affordable than their more renowned counterparts from across the valley floor. A blend of Sangiovese with Merlot, Canaiolo and Mammolo ensures a rich and varied flavour profile.
This wine is made from hand-harvested fruit from Lunadoro’s estate. The grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled vessels and aged in the traditional large French oak vats (about 3000 litres each) for 12 months before bottling. It is a sunny wine, showing its warm climate lineage, that also displays some leather characteristics from age.
Lunadoro ‘Prugnanello’ Rosso di Montepulciano makes a wonderful accompaniment to grilled meat dishes and mushroom dishes. Decant at least one hour before drinking.
Producer’s Tasting Notes
An intense ruby red colour with garnet tinges, floral notes of violets, citrus and locust with a slightly spicy taste of clove. Harmonious on the palate, with the pleasant floral notes of the bouquet. Softly tannic, with a fresh and enjoyable finish.
