Florio represents an Italian icon — from pioneering this full-flavored type of fortified wine in the 1800s to consistently producing only the highest quality Marsala.

This Superiore Riserva Semisecco NV is a shining example of a semi-sweet fortified Italian marsala wine. Produced in the coastal strip and inland of the municipality of Marsala in Trapani, Florio make this marsala using a blend of white Grillo and Cataratto grapes grown 300 metres above sea level. The climate boasts hot, dry summers with strong winds.

It’s fermented at a controlled temperature then fortified with the addition of mistelle (unfermented grape juice and alcohol). This marsala is aged for at least 7 years in 18,000 litre oak barrels. Later, it’s refined for more than a year in ancient 300-litre barrels. The wine rests for at least 2 months in bottle before release. The result is a smooth, luscious marsala.

Its serving possibilities are varied: Superiore Riserva Semisecco NV is excellent at the start of a meal, even complementing blue and semi-mature cheeses when served chilled. It’s also ideal with dessert at the end of a meal, and can be used to prepare classic cocktails as well as new, more contemporary mixes. This wine is best served at room temperature if enjoyed after a meal.
