Warramate Wines was established in 1970 on a spectacular north-facing slope overlooking the central Yarra Valley. Today the wines are made by Yarra Yerring winemaker Sarah Crowe having been purchased by Yarra Yerings owners in 2011.
The grapes are whole bunch pressed to extract the purest Chardonnay juice then fermented on some light solids which lend weight, texture and ultimately complexity.
There is some barrel fermentation before transfer to stainless steel tank to keep the wine bright and focused. For this reason no malolactic fermentation was initiated either.
Only French oak is used with 20% being new barrels, the balance a mixture of older barrels, maturation time only 9 months before bottling.
Oyster shell nose with grapefruit and citrus. A whisper of white nectarine and the faintest impression of sweet vanilla.
Finesse combined with soft fruit weight; this is a wine that is fine boned with green apple crunch and grapefruit dominating its youth.
An energy drives the palate with a pithy interest and texture on the back palate.
Supported by an extremely fine-grained oak tannin framework which lingers on the finish.
