If you’re keen on Chianti, we can’t recommend enough the Castello di Querceto Mixed Case from one of our favourite Italian wineries! Featuring three different reds from family winemakers, this Tuscan variety case is sure to delight. These wines are full-bodied, powerful expressions of Italian winemaking with classic dark fruit notes.

Castello di Querceto is a family-owned and operated winery nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany. The castle of Querceto takes its name from the forest oaks which surround the old fortified walls. They have been producing wines known for their elegance, quality and character for over 100 years.

Castello di Querceto ‘Cignale’

This is a classic “super-Tuscan” made on a single 4 hectare plot in the heart of Chianti Classico. Winemakers hand-harvest the grapes and ferment them in temperature-controlled vessels. It ages in barrel for a minimum of 18 months, and then aged in bottle for 6 months before release. This wine shows a classic nose of cassis and toast, roast coffee, clove, cedar, and ripe cherry. It is a wine that will keep well for 20 years from the vintage and a testament to Bordeaux blends made in this sunny part of the Mediterranean basin.

Castello di Querceto ‘La Corte’

This is the Sangiovese counterpart to Il Cignale. It comes from a single four hectare vineyard that is cultivated and harvested by hand to yield a pure expression of Tuscany’s most noble grape variety. The wine matures for at least 18 months in barrel, and a further 6 months in bottle before release. It shows some clove and smoke from ageing in barrel, and the black tea, cherry, strawberry, and plum characteristics from the fruit. Suitable for keeping up to 25 years from the vintage.

Castello di Querceto Chianti Classico Riserva

This is 92% Sangiovese, with the remainder being Colorino, Canaiolo, Mammolo, and Ciliegiolo. It spends at least 12 months ageing in mostly old oak, and shows the black tea, smoke, cherry, and plum fruit that make Chianti Classico so great. It is a full-bodied and commanding wine that shows especially well if it paired with beef, game, or strong hard cheese like pecorino or manchego. Will keep for 15 years after the vintage.
