Brunello di Montalcino is arguably the finest expression of Sangiovese in the world. This wine is made from grapes grown on a single vineyard that faces the Mediterranean sea. The vines are carefully tended and chosen to show intense characteristics of berries, leather, tea, sweet spice and anise. This is a fine wine that will improve easily with ten years’ cellaring after the vintage – it shows well at the moment though so this is partly a question of personal taste.
