Castello di Querceto ‘Cignale’ is a classic “super-Tuscan” wine, produced in sunny Italy but with international grape varieties.
Nestled in the rolling hills of Tuscany, Castello di Querceto have been producing wines known for their elegance, quality and character for over 100 years. Cignale is the estate’s top wine, produced since 1986.
It is made on a single 4 hectare plot in the heart of Chianti Classico that is planted with 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in temperature-controlled vessels. It is aged in barrel (75% new and 25% used) for a minimum of 18 months. Following this, it aged in bottle for 6 months before release.
This wine is a very intense ruby red colour with an elegant and complex bouquet. It shows a classic palate of cassis and toast, roast coffee, clove, cedar, and ripe cherry. Full bodied and ripe, it boasts a beautiful structure thanks to its high Cabernet Sauvignon percentage. It is a wine that will keep well for 20 years from the vintage and a testament to Bordeaux blends made in this sunny part of the Mediterranean basin.
