Les Vaucopins is a very well sited 1er Cru vineyard within the Domaine Long-Depaquit stable of excellent Chablis vineyard sites. It has a southern exposure, steep slopes, and the classic Kimmeridgian clay subsoil in common with its Grand Cru peers. The vineyard is 5.2 hectares (12.8 acres) and is planted with vines an average of 31 years old.
The grapes from this site are hand-harvested and fermented in a mix of steel tanks (85% of crop) and used oak barrels (15% of the crop). Those wines are then aged for between 10 and 12 months on fine lees before the wines are selected for blending and bottling.
It is a forward and expressive style of Chablis that shows some toast character from oak, brioche from lees ageing, and attractive aromas of citrus and fresh quince. Very fine.
