Croft Vintage Port 2011 displays all the rich ripe fruitiness and exotic scented character associated with the Croft house style.
Founded in 1588, Croft is the oldest firm still active today as a Port wine producer. The company is renowned above all for its Vintage Ports.
2011 was an exceptional vintage for port production. From early May conditions turned generally dry and remained so for most of the summer. Picking began at Quinta da Roêda on 10th September in excellent harvesting conditions. Fermentation times were long, allowing for complete and even extraction, and the musts in the quinta’s lagares showed exceptionally intense colour and aroma.
Croft’s wines tend to be flattering earlier in their lives and are lusciously fruit driven. This is a wine that will cellar for decades in the right conditions gradually taking on layers of tobacco, and leather, and spice to complement the dense plummy and blackcurrant fruit in the wine.
The wine’s velvety texture is underpinned by taut, muscular, perfectly integrated tannins. These provide stamina with an attractive firmness and vigour to the finish.
Enjoy Croft Vintage Port 2011 with a rich cheeseboard after a special dinner – stilton is a particularly classic pairing which highlights the luscious character of the fruit.
