This Grand Cru originates from the prestigious Echézeaux vineyard, nestled in Flagey-Échézeaux within the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard’s limestone-rich soils provide exceptional drainage, encouraging deep-rooted vines to produce intensely flavoured grapes. Domaine de Clos Frantin follows sustainable viticulture, ensuring respect for nature and the vines. The 2018 vintage benefited from a warm growing season, delivering ripe fruit and balanced acidity.
Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal maturity, ensuring precision in selection. Fermentation occurs in thermoregulated oak vats, preserving the wine’s purity and aromatic depth. Ageing in French oak barrels (50% new) for 14 to 16 months imparts structure, refinement, and subtle spice notes.
The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru presents a deep ruby-red hue with luminous highlights. The nose exudes complex aromas of black cherry, wild strawberries, and violets, intertwined with delicate spice, truffle, and earthy undertones.
On the palate, this Grand Cru is silky, opulent, and beautifully layered. Juicy red and black fruits dominate, complemented by hints of liquorice, cloves, and mocha. Fine-grained tannins provide structure, while vibrant acidity ensures remarkable balance. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent, with lingering mineral freshness.
