Marrone Barolo Pichemej is a delicately perfumed Italian red wine from one of the region’s finest producers.

Four generations of this family’s passion, tenacity and hard work has been applied to produce fine wine.

Marrone retain a history of tradition with an eye always turned to the future.

The Nebbiolo grapes used in the production of this wine come from a blend of sites.

La Morra has tortonian soil. This is more compact calcareous marl soil mixed with sand. It is rich in magnesium and manganese, thus resulting in more perfumed, gentle, softer wines. Monforte d’Alba has clayey marl soils with high sand content and a southwest exposure.

The grapes for this wine were hand-harvested in the first week of October, with manual berry selection, then lightly pressed and fermented on skins for 30 days in stainless steel tanks. The wine then aged for 30 months in oak (the first ten of which were spent on fine lees). Following this, it aged in bottle for a further six months.

Enjoy Marrone Barolo Pichemej with braised meat dishes. It also shines alongside mushrooms.

Producer’s Tasting Notes

‘Pichemej’ means “more than better” in the local Piedmontese dialect, the heritage of the family.

It develops in the glass with a typically garnet color. It leaves the nose speechless, where subtle and elegant notes alternate, to create an exceptional aromatic bouquet: lovely mature cherry, nutmeg and hints of Indian spice. In the mouth it continues round and full, showing flashes of hay and alpine herbs and flowers, with balanced tannins. Great ageing potential.
