Nunquam Herbarum Il Perfetto Amaro is a liqueur using a variety of medicinal herbs and spices, with a subtly spicy flavour.
The Nunquam distillery has been operating since 2007 from its location in Tavola, a town in the municipality of Prato, north-west of Florence, in Tuscany.
Its goal has been to reproduce classic liqueurs, using the same processing methods as stipulated in the original recipes. Some of these date back as far as 1750.
This particular alcoholic infusion of nine different types of herbs and spices is recognised for its therapeutic and digestive properties. The recipe takes its inspiration from medieval alchemy and the work of ancient ‘monastic chemists’. They created botanical drinks with supposed health-giving properties.
It gives rise to this soft green liqueur, with a fresh and herbal “alpine” aroma, an intense, captivating and then slightly spicy taste.
It displays earthy bitterness straight off, leading into warmer, aromatic spice, piney juniper and then delicate floral notes. The finish is spiced yet smooth and well-controlled.
Enjoy Nunquam Herbarum Il Perfetto Amaro neat at room temperature after a hearty meal. Aiding digestion is its original purpose.
