Castello di Querceto La Corte Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a fruity, rich and expressive Chianti from one of the finest family winemakers in the Tuscan region.
Castello di Querceto is a family winery founded in 1740. Today the fifth generation has taken up the winemaking mantle. Today they focus on the development of premium Chianti wines using the most treasured grape varieties of the Tuscan region.
This is the Sangiovese counterpart to Il Cignale – Querceto’s remarkable super-Tuscan – it comes from a single four hectare vineyard that is cultivated and harvested by hand. This yields a pure expression of Tuscany’s most noble grape variety.
It fermented for approximately 15 days at 28°C, leading to a dominance of lush fruit flavours.
The wine matured for at least 18 months in barrel, and a further 6 months in bottle before release, leading to a powerfully complex nose. It shows some clove, smoke and cigar tobacco from ageing in barrel. Black tea, cherry, strawberry, and plum characteristics appear prominently from the fruit. The finish is then long and persuasive.
