Sample delicious wines from lesser-known Greek and Spanish regions with our Mediterranean Islands Mixed Case! The wines here are all made on islands in the Mediterranean at two wineries dedicated to bringing an island twist to beloved European grape varietals. If you love your Med wines but are keen to find something new from the region, this is perfect.
The first winery, Son Vich de Superna, is a family winery located on the Spanish island of Majorca, in the heart of the Serra Tramuntana, one of four wine production areas in the world classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It uses traditional production methods. It was established in 2006 with a passion to make wines that are high quality, but also different from what was then being made on the island. They always fully respect the natural environment.
The second is Diamantakis, founded in 2007. It is also a family winery located on the Greek island of Crete, to the south-west of Heraklion in the heart of the Malevizi province. The love and passion of the Diamantakis family for high quality wine and their long tradition in viticulture was the motivation to create a small winery in the area. The family’s vision was the cultivation of local grape varieties such as Vidiano, Liatiko and Mandilaria. They produce their best expression in this unique microclimate.
The wines featured in the Mediterranean Islands Mixed Case are:
Using the battonage technique plus four months of static maceration on lees in French oak barrels, winemakers create a full-bodied, voluminous white. It’s balanced and elegant with notes of dried fruits, such as almonds, cloves and white flowers. There’s also smokiness from the oak.
This voluminous and elegant Tempranillo is a balance of fruits and minerals, exploding all its youth and complexity explodes. It then boasts a long finish with balanced acidity.
Low temperature fermentation of this Assyrtiko takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by a three months maturation on fine lees. It’s a pale yellow colour with fresh citrus, floral and herbal aromas. It’s balanced by a high, crispy acidity and a mineral finish.
